Small Gems

“Small Gems” is the Christmas group exhibition of smaller artworks, which are intended to be suitable for seasonal shopping. It is an open theme exhibition which typically runs four and a half weeks, which is two weeks longer than normal.

Two dimensional artwork is limited to a maximum framed size of approximately 192 square inches (revised 22 February 2010). Three dimensional artwork should be an appropriate size.

Multiple submissions are encouraged, but a typical cap of 6 pieces per artist may be applied depending on the total number of entries. Any limitation will be specified at the drop off night.

Artists are encouraged to have additional artwork available to replace any that are sold, as this exhibition allows pieces to be taken immediately upon purchase.

To encourage multiple submissions, normal sitting requirements are suspended for this show, but obviously the number of slots to be filled will still depend on the number of participants and their submissions. Sitting requirements will be spelled out on the dropoff night.

Due to the volume of submissions, most artwork will be hung from nails. Following the Small Gems show, the gallery is typically closed for a week to allow the walls to be repaired and repainted.

The pickup day for any unsold artwork will usually fall between Christmas and New Year's, and may be on a different day other than the normal Tuesday. Please check the Gallery Schedule for specific dates.

Historically, CAAG donates 10% of all sales from the Small Gems show to the Spirit of Christmas, otherwise known as the Canmore Food Bank.
